“At 64, I’ll never downsize from my four-bed because moving home is horrendous”

Callum Mason at The i Paper quoted our OPDA consumer research report in his article about the barriers to downsizing.

He interviewed John Dixon, who had been in the mortgage industry for more than 25 years before retiring, to share his experience of moving twice in the last few years which included buyers changing their mind at the last minute and struggling with limited transparency across the chain.

Too long transaction times and challenges with the process were common frustrations from our survey respondents, particularly for those aged 65 and over.

It highlights the need for long-term and strategic solutions, but also the additional impacts on older barriers where transaction times and chains are their biggest barriers.

Our research found:

⏰ long transaction times are the biggest barrier to moving for 55% of 65-74 year olds
⬆️ this increased to 68% for people aged 75+
