As a membership-based association committed to upholding the highest levels of data and technology standards, the Open Property Data Association (OPDA) is committed to maintaining your privacy. The following information describes the practices we maintain regarding any personal information that which we receive about you. From time to time, we may need to make enhancements to our privacy practices. This may happen as the result of government regulation, recent technologies, or other developments in the area of privacy protection. Any updates to our privacy policy will be clearly posted on the website.

Why we collect personal information

We collect personal information solely for the purposes of running the business of OPDA. The three main purposes are: 

  1. If you are, or apply to become a member 
  2. If you, or someone from your organisation, registers for one of our events 
  3. If you ask us to send you publications, information on consultations, or any other information  

If you are registering other people for one of our events, then you are responsible for ensuring those individuals have either read or been informed of the contents of this privacy policy.

How we use and share your information

If you are a member, we will use your personal information to administer your membership. We will also send you any guides, documentation, email alerts or other information that we provide to members or that you have requested we send to you. 

If you have registered for an event, we will use your details to send you the relevant information pack, and to include your name on the delegate list (which is available to other delegates) and for other purposes related to our running of the event. 

We may also use third party companies to help us provide our services. These companies will only use your personal data in line with this policy. We reserve the right to share your personal information with a third party without your consent where it is permitted by law, including if: 

  • the disclosure is required by law or by a regulator with authority over us or you, such as where there is a court order, statutory obligation or FCA request; and/or 
  • we believe that such disclosure is necessary in order to assist in the prevention or detection of any criminal action (including fraud) or is otherwise in the overriding public interest. 

In the unlikely event that we transfer your personal data outside the EEA we will ensure that an adequate level of protection is in place to protect your personal information.

Where you have agreed, we will send you details of any events, workshops or other activities which are run by us or by one of our partners. We may share your information with our partner so they can provide you with those details directly.

IP Address and Pixel tags

We may collect IP addresses when accessing or browsing our website as a way of tracking site usage. We do not track any individual person’s activities using IP addresses. Instead, we use this information solely to determine the number of times browsers view a page of our site and to aggregate information that allows us to continuously improve the quality of our website. 

Pixel tags (also called clear gifs or web bugs) are used to track who is reading a web page or e-mail, when, and from what computer. They provide us with information about your interaction with our email messages (if you receive messages in html format) and to record some of the pages you consequently visit on our website. 

We use this information so we can provide you with information tailored to your needs and interests, better plan our future campaigns and upgrading visitor information used in reporting statistics. Pixel tag technology is used to analyse the reading habits of our membership in order to review and improve services to members and on occasion may use this for marketing purposes.
